Follow up to Dollar Tree Wreath Project
Stopped at 2 local Dollar Tree stores this week. Stock varied but they both had the Plastic Severed Hands. Discovered you can order them by the case on the web site and pick up in store. 24 hands to a case. More info on the web site.

Dollar Store Skeletal Hands Wreath
This wreath is so simple and lovely. I didn't see plastic hands at my store and will hunt at a few more stores. The hands would be "handy" for many projects. Tutorial here.

Nightmare Before Christmas Scary Cocoa
Walgreens has 2 different cocoa design packets based on The Nightmare Before Christmas. Not as interesting as the Villains hot chocolate from a few years back. I tuck them away for little Halloween Christmas gifts.

More Target Halloween
This cat is labeled as a candy dish. It would make a cute planter or vase with orange flowers.
Lanterns this year are in 12 and 18 inch sizes.

How to keep the glitter in place
The tiara is now sold out but was sold at The Vintage Halloween Store. A nice nod to the vintage paper tiaras. Like most glitter goodies no matter how much you shake off the excess you still get some shedding when handled or worn. My solution is Low Odor Clear Gloss. We used to coat masks with the low oder gloss so you don't have that lingering smell. It really depends on the kind of glitter and size but usually a quick spray will keep glitter in place without taking away the sparkle. I recommend trying the spray on a small spot to make sure it doesn't dull the glitter. Do not use on glass or vintage glitter decorations.
Beautiful Disney Haunted Mansion Make-Up
Appearing in the parks yet more cool Haunted Mansion swag. Love this skull lipstick in the new Beautiful Disney line. Texting a friend Disneyland right now to see if its in stock yet.

Glitter Clip on Critters at Walmart
Walmart has a bin or glitter pumpkins that have clips on the back so you can attach them to things much like the glitter Christmas ornaments. The box next to the pumpkins was glitter critters. Most of the black bats were gone but I managed to snag a pair of black bats! Great for clipping on wreaths and other displays. Mine will most likely end up on a hat.

DIY Glowing Luminaries project
Easy DIY luminary project for families. What I like is how she shows piling up the tea lights. So often the design is only lit from the bottom. Stacking randomly in the luminary gives you a nice even glow.

Fun Skeleton Project for Kids
Might try this with the great-nephew while the weather is still nice. Put sheets of plastic down on the driveway for painting. Oh…who am I kidding? I just want to borrow the 8 year old so I can make a tape resist skeleton.
Halloween Crepe Paper at Target
Target has several old fashioned crepe paper streamer rolls. Sadly they are not on the web site. For $2 you get 81 feet of 1 3/4 inch wide crepe paper streamer. For crafters who make vintage inspired pieces this is very exciting. Black and white stripe and black with white spiderweb were the other choices at my store. Limited item as there were only a dozen in a bin. Its worth noting stock at my two stores varied. One store did not stock the crepe at all. Grab it while you can!

City Flowers in Bellevue, Washington Halloween 2014
One of many things I will miss seeing with the demise of the Steamcon convention is this wonderful flower shop decked out in Halloween finery. Its a tiny space that spills outside the doorway. Buying ribbon and toads here brings back fond memories.

Good Housekeeping Magazine October
A couple of cute things in Good Housekeeping magazine. The bats made of ribbon on wire with painted white dots for eyes are sweet. Making stamps from carved potatoes of carved erasers brought back some craft stamping memories.

One of my faithful blog readers pointed me to Vermont Country Store with delightful old fashioned Halloween goodies. This blow mold set of vintage stye lights are my favorites.

Halloween 2014 at Target
Halloween is still sharing space with back to school and garden stuff at my big store. It was kind of funny seeing it all jumbled. The big foam wigs are back by Chris March again this year. The only one at my store so far is this one. The costume awards were really cute.

Beistle Lantern Making Tutorial
Excellent tutorial on how to turn a Beistle reproduction piece in to a lantern. A big thank you to Mister Macabre for this great project.
World Market Day of the Dead
World Market had these napkins last year and I bought 2 black and 2 orange. They will eventually be made in to a banner for the mantle sewn on a black ribbon. The napkins are on sale right now here. There are some old standards at World Market this year and some wonderful new items.
Temperature Changing Skeleton Mug
Found on Flickr. The mug was in Barnes and Noble stores last year. Not currently on the web site. Love the design.

Matthew Mead Halloween 2014
Found at Target the New Frightfully Fun Halloween edition by Matthew Mead. Great party and food ideas. Owls are a popular theme this year and they are the Creature feature in this edition. Decor with owls and treats. I look forward to this magazine every year even if it is a little expensive at $12.99. You can find previous Halloween editions by Matthew Mead on Amazon.com.

Martha Stewart October Issue 2 for 1
Mixed feelings about how the Halloween issue was handled this year. Its a flip magazine. Front cover is October and about the usual size of a Martha Stewart Living magazine. Turn the magazine over and flip it for the back cover that is the Halloween issue. Its 31 pages including advertising.
I am happy there is a Halloween section if the Halloween edition had to be scrapped this year. It makes me a little sad knowing the magazine will be published with fewer issues each year. It feels like we might be seeing the last of the Halloween editions. My issue came in the mail yesterday so it should be hitting stands soon. There are some nicely carved pumpkins that look like old wood cut prints. Will try to get some images up soon.

HallMark Silhouette Door Frame Witch and Cat
I was unable to find the cat on the website. The witch can be found here. Now that the cat is perched on the end of my sewing room closet there should be a witch to compliment it. Its picking what to spend on each year for Halloween that is difficult. My budget is just about spent until the post Halloween sales!

My velvet pumpkins are not this cheery. Darker colors on my sideboard mixed with faux mercury glass are more my style. Easy to follow tutorial here for making these velvet beauties. Great way to use up scraps or use thrift store velvet shirts.
